We----Chinese
Luehdorfia Butterfly, are special in China only. We lived along the mid
and lower reach of the Long River, such as Wu Han, JiangXi, AnHui, JiangSu.
Our babied need DuHeng to live, so we just show up around the spring time
annually when this plant is flourishing.
Early in the 20th century, an American insect
scientist found us near LongTan in NanJing. In the 1980s, after long time
field researching and breeding, the scientists in NanJing----WuQi and
ZhangSongkui, finally made our distribution and behavior clear. In 1989,
"NiuShou Mount Chinese Luehdorfia Reserve" was set up, two years
after they sent the application to establish a peaceful home for us all.
During the recent decade, our peaceful land suffered
great devastation ranges from constrution to the intrusion of tourism.
The loss of "DuHeng" gives us a mortal strike especially to
our babies. Now we are pushed to the on the brink of diaappearance while
in some other places our cousins had vanished already.
Other three habitats in NiuShou Shan has disappeared.
And our situation is not that optimistic, for the fund of the reserve
is in sufficient. We are afraid......
